Heather Lauren Funderburk

It is with great sadness that we must announce that Heather Lauren Funderburk, 40, of Travelers Rest, SC passed away on Monday December 9, 2024, and is survived by her loving family and friends. Heather was born in Texas, but she also lived in different parts of New York, Georgia, and North Carolina before settling in Traveler's Rest, SC with her son Finnegan. In addition to all the places Heather called home, she had the opportunity to travel quite a bit as well. Heather lived with a family in Guatemala for several months while she was studying Spanish, spent a season working and enjoying Glacier National Park, and also worked a season in Denali, Alaska. Heather earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with a minor in Spanish, from the University of North Carolina Asheville. She chose to study Sociology because she wanted to gain further understanding of human beings, social relationships, our institutions, and how human behavior can impact society. Like all things Heather did in life, her main goal was to try to help others in any way she could. She understood that in order to do that, she must first be able to understand Sociology. She most definitely succeeded in that, and yet, she still continued to further her understanding of human behaviors/interactions throughout her entire life. Heather was an optimist and brought a shining ray of positivity into all the lives of everyone she met. In fact, almost everyone she encountered just immediately wanted to be her friend, as she was just that inspiring. She was also an excellent mother to her son Finnegan, an exceptional gardener, a bicycle enthusiast, a terrific cook, and just funny as hell! All of us that knew Heather, are just beside ourselves with grief while dealing with her passing at such a young age, but all of us also know this: Heather would not want us to dwell in sadness but would rather want us to remember her fondly, in our hearts and continue to seek out the joy in our own lives. That will prove to be an almost insurmountable obstacle, but we can take solace in knowing that she lived a full and interesting life whilst constantly trying to help others. That should be the goal for all of us, and Heather certainly achieved that. Rest in Peace Heather Funderburk "Lovingly submitted by her family."
