Dr. Daniel James Dahlhausen

On May 9, 2025, after an eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Dr. Daniel James Dahlhausen, 70, of Easley, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. A celebration of life service will be held in his honor at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Greenville, SC at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 17, 2025. The family will receive visitors from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the same location. A private graveside service and burial will follow at Ramsey Creek Preserve in Westminster, SC. The family respectfully requests that no floral arrangements be sent. He was the oldest of fourteen children. He attended Newbury High School where he competed in football and wrestling, Dan received a Bachelor of Science in Education and completed a Master of Science in Chemistry. After completing his Doctor of Medicine and a residency in Family Practice, he practiced Family Medicine in rural Mt Gilead, OH from 1988 to 2002. He then moved to Pickens, SC where he practiced Family Medicine/Geriatric Medicine at Cannon Memorial Hospital until 2022. While in SC, he also earned a Master of Arts in Bible. He served as the medical director of several nursing homes and hospice. After retiring from office practice, Dan served 3 years with Gospel Fellowship Association in medical missions, delivering the gospel and healthcare to the needy on 3 continents. Dan loved his work, and his care for people and excellent skill as a physician was evident to all. Dan met his “wife for life,” the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) McGuigan, at the University of Virginia. They were married in 1981 and had seven children. Dan was a faithful husband and wonderful father, always giving of his time and energy to lead his family in God’s ways and create a loving environment where each child could thrive. He currently has 22 adoring grandchildren who will deeply miss Grampa’s tractor rides, funny faces, and donut runs. On April 11, 1980, as a university grad student, Dan came to understand that he was a sinner, completely incapable of saving himself from God’s righteous judgment. He saw in the Bible that God so loved the world that He sent His only Son Jesus to die on a cross and make payment for man’s sin. God raised Jesus the third day, conquering sin and death, showing both His justice and His mercy. Dan trusted in Jesus, believed that He “was made sin for us, who knew no sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” This faith in Christ alone radically changed his life. Dan loved the Lord and sought to follow God for the rest of his life, and he loved God’s Word, the Bible. God’s work in Dan’s life was evidenced in his kindness, his integrity, his diligence, his mercy, and his love. Dan was a beloved and involved member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Dan is survived by Betty, his dear wife and best friend of 43 years. He is survived by his children, Rachel Dahlhausen of Greenville, SC; Beka (Ben) Bixby of Hemet, CA; Phillip (Benita) Dahlhausen of Honolulu, HI; Abigail (Dan) Mangum of Grand Junction, CO; Anna (Jonathan) de Vries of Berlin, Germany; Deborah (Lee) Peltier of Easley, SC; and Tim (Liz) of Easley, SC. Dan’s grandchildren: Emma, Josh, Timmy, Ellie, and Hudson Bixby; Jeremiah, Ariella, and Anela Dahlhausen; Aubrey, Alayna, and Henry Mangum; Alyssa, Sophia, and Linnea de Vries; Zoe, Micah, Titus, Olivia, and Isaac Peltier; and Hayley, Lexi, and Kai Dahlhausen. Dan’s parents, Jim and Joan, have already gone into God’s presence. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Tina Dahlhausen. He is survived by his siblings: Debbie (Kevin) Timmons, Jim (Pam) Dahlhausen, Joe (Melissa) Dahlhausen, Nancy (Rick) Linville, Diane (Hugh) Finnerty, Ron (Lizane) Dahlhausen, Kurt Dahlhausen, Jeff Dahlhausen, Mark Dahlhausen, Dave (Kayla) Dahlhausen, and Jill (Tim) Ebie.
