Lloyd Newman Smith Jr.

Lloyd Newman Smith Jr. 73, passed away on November 2, 2024 in Marietta, South Carolina. Born on September 3, 1951, to Lloyd Newman Smith Sr. and Phyllis Gantt, Lloyd was a pillar of strength and care within his community and family. Lloyd dedicated over 50 years to the trade of drywall finishing and also owned and operated a towing service. Before retiring, he contributed many years of service to the Greenville County School District. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his family and community. He was a long-time worshiper at the Bible Deliverance Temple in Marietta, South Carolina, where he was known for his strong emotional presence and his protective, caring nature. Lloyd had a profound love for old country and gospel music. He was often found listening to his record collection. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially during family gatherings which he loved dearly. Lloyd is survived by his loving spouse of 47 years, Mary Kathleen Smith, and their five children: Robert Hall (Marisa), Michelle Redding (Jeff), Joel Hall (Kayla), Troy Wilson, and Marci Rathbone. His legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren. William Hall being one of his grandchildren lived with him. He had one great-granddaughter, Noelle Redding. He is also remembered by his sister, Lori "Phylura" Roberts, and cousin, Paulette "Polly" Wilson (Mack), along with numerous nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Newman Smith Sr. and Phyllis Gantt, his sister Shalma Rathbone, and his maternal grandparents, Grover and Cora Holt Smith. Visitation will be held Friday November 8, 2024 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM at Bible Deliverance Temple 500 Slater Rd, Marietta, SC 29661 with Funeral Services at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary. Burial will be private, family members only. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice. The family would like to recognize the nurse Sidney with Hospice for her kind and considerate approach with handling every situation. During this period of mourning, the family will gather at the home of his daughter, Michelle Redding.
